Why Yellowjackets Season 3 is darker, wilder and more mysterious than ever

Yellowjackets is one of most enthralling series on TV.

And finally, after a two year break, the wait for new episodes is over.

The Emmy-nominated survival thriller has returned for its highly anticipated third season and it’s already proving to be the most gripping yet.

Equal parts survival epic, psychological horror and coming-of-age drama, Yellowjackets continues to deliver the chilling twists and emotional gut punches that have made it a global sensation.

If you’re new to the series – the show is set in two timelines, the first in 1996 where a team of high school soccer players travel to Seattle for a national tournament.

While flying over Canada, their plane crashes deep in the wilderness and the remaining team members are left to survive for 19 months.

The series chronicles their attempts to survive and hints that the survivors had to do everything humanly possible to stay alive while lost.

The second timeline tracks their current lives in 2021. Melanie Lynskey, Tawny Crypress, Juliette Lewis and Chistina Ricci portray four wildly talented grown up versions of the (un)lucky survivors.

What makes the show so much fun is solving the puzzles of the timelines.

Working out who survived and who hasn’t. Who has beef with who? And how a traumatic event has such an impact on their adult lives.

Season 3, available to stream on Paramount+ picks up as the stranded soccer team faces a fragile victory: winter is over, but their problems are far from solved.

Distrust between the group is brewing, leadership is faltering, and tensions threaten their chances of rescue.

Meanwhile, in the present, the surviving women are forced to confront their darkest secrets, proving that the wilderness never really left them.

As past and present collide, one question looms large: who are they really, and what horrors are they still hiding?

A feast for the brave at NEL Restaurant

To celebrate the launch of Yellowjackets Season 3, Sydney’s NEL Restaurant is taking fans deep into the show’s primal world with a dining experience unlike any other.

From March 4 to 7, the acclaimed fine dining hotspot is hosting the Eat Your Heart Out degustation, a multi-course journey inspired by the show’s themes of survival and, well, let’s just say… controversial culinary choices.

We had the chance to experience the exclusive meal firsthand, and it was nothing short of extraordinary. The night began with foraging – literally – before escalating into a series of dishes that tested the limits of our taste buds (and our nerves).

Chef Nelly Robinson, known for his boundary-pushing creations, crafted an 11-course menu that plays with the unsettling nature of Yellowjackets‘ narrative.

Think delicacies that challenge perceptions, including brain and ear-inspired courses that were surprisingly delicious.

“For anyone that knows us, they understand we are about pushing the boundaries of what is possible,” Chef Robinson said.

“Getting to ask the question of ‘how do we make an ear appetising?’ was an exciting quest. The answer is in the flavours, while it might not look conventionally appetising, the taste will leave you speechless.”

For those bold enough to take on the Eat Your Heart Out challenge, NEL Restaurant promises a night of immersive dining where the line between friend and feast might blur, just as it does in the show.

If you’re a fan of Yellowjackets, it’s an experience you won’t want to miss.

Season 3 of Yellowjackets is now streaming on Paramount+.
