EXCLUSIVE: Playbill Inc. has named Jolie Schaffzin as Publisher of Playbill magazine, the theater magazine and guide. A veteran of the publication with 27 years of service, Schaffzin becomes the first woman to hold the role.
Following a career at advertising agencies, and sales roles at both Condé Nast and Hearst, Schaffzin joined Playbill as Director of Fashion & Beauty Advertising and was later promoted to Associate Publisher. Over the decades, she has built deep relationships across the advertising and theater industries, championing the power of storytelling both on stage and in print.
A lifelong theatergoer, Schaffzin also supports organizations that strengthen the arts community, including Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and the Dramatist Guild Foundation. She serves on the Advisory Committee of the American Theatre Wing.
Playbill’s Chairman and CEO Philip Birsh said, “The entire Playbill family is very proud of our remarkable colleague and friend, Jolie Schaffzin. She is an extraordinary professional and has earned our admiration and unabashed love. She will be an especially impactful leader of our newer generation of Playbill personnel. Bravo, Jolie!”
Her appointment comes in Playbill’s 140th anniversary year and at a time when Broadway is on track to break records.
