Refresh for latest…: A very busy weekend at the global and international box office with strong holds for the films already in play and the impressive return of a Jedi.
Before we dive into detail, here’s the topline information.
Warner Bros/Legendary’s A Minecraft Movie crossed yet another century mark worldwide, now at $816.6M global after four weekends. That includes $436.6M from 78 offshore markets. The current frame overseas was $37.8M with the holdover drop from the Easter holiday session at just 44%.
Also from WB, Ryan Coogler’s Sinners saw an outstanding 14% dip from its opening last weekend internationally, spurred on by the great word of mouth. The weekend was worth $13.5M in 71 markets, and increased the offshore cume to $39.1M for $161.6M global to date.
Rounding out the WB trio, The Accountant 2 (an Amazon MGM Studios title that WB handles overseas) launched in 71 international markets this weekend to an estimated $13.7M. Including domestic, the worldwide debut on the Ben Affleck sequel is $38.2M.
As for Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, Disney released the reissue domestically and in 34 material offshore markets, including majors Germany, France, Spain, UK, Australia, Brazil and Mexico. Arguably the best film of its 1999-2005 trilogy, the darkly emotional origins story grossed $17M overseas for a strong $42.2M global. This would lift the lifetime global cume to $892.2M.
This is a one-week run that Disney timed smartly. It will end before Dis/Marvel’s Thunderbolts* hits screens this week, but comes ahead of May the Fourth and in the wake of the Andor Season 2 premiere as well as last weekend’s Star Wars Celebration. That event heralded the return of Revenge of the Sith’s Hayden Christensen to Ahsoka Season 2 and shared details on the next two new theatrical features set in a galaxy far, far away: The Mandalorian and Grogu (May 2026) and Star Wars: Starfighter (May 2027).
Revenge of the Sith overperformed internationally with No. 1s in Germany, Norway, Chile and Bolivia. In Germany ($4.6M), it notched the 2nd highest opening of the year to date. In Spain and Mexico along with smaller markets, it was No. 2, and came in No. 3 in the UK and Australia, and No. 4 in France and Brazil.
