EXCLUSIVE: UTA has signed playwright, director, and actor Marco Calvani for representation in all areas.
Calvani recently made his U.S. acting debut playing Claude in the Netflix dramedy The Four Seasons. From creators Tina Fey, Lang Fisher and Tracy Wigfield, the show follows a group of six friends heading on a vacation together when Nick (Steve Carell) drops the bomb that he wants to leave his wife, Anne (Kerri Kenney-Silver). From there, the three couples — one split up — navigate the new dynamic of splitting time between Nick and Anne while the other two pairs deal with their own struggles that come with being together for a long time. Season 2 of the series begins production later this year.
Calvani’s signing follows his first feature film, High Tide, which he wrote, directed, and produced. The film premiered last year at SXSW and was released theatrically last March, receiving a nomination for “Outstanding Film Limited Theatrical Release” at the 2025 GLAAD Media Awards. Calvani is currently working on his second feature film, Capitana, which he is set to produce, co-write, and direct.
Trained as an actor since he was a teenager in Italy, Calvani decided to focus on playwriting and directing in his early twenties. Across his long career as a theatremaker, he has received commissions from the Phoenix Theatre of London, Kunsthaus Tacheles of Berlin, Théâtre de la Ville of Paris, Grec Fundaciò of Barcelone and La MaMaTheatre of New York, among others.
His first short film, The View From Up Here, stars Oscar-winner Melissa Leo and César-winner Leïla Bekhti. It was originally a play commissioned by The Actors Studio in 2016 and directed by Oscar-winner Estelle Parsons. His second short film, A Better Half, starring Darren Pettie and Chris Stack, was named Best Short of 2022 by the British Film Magazine Close-Up.
As an actor, Calvani has appeared in several Italian TV shows and films, including Inspector Manari (Rai, 2011) and Good Morning Headache by Anna Negri (Sundance 2008). Notably, he played Cristoforo Castanea in Tom Fontana’s Borgia (Canal+, 2011-2013).
Calvani is represented by Fusion Entertainment and Gang, Tyre, Ramer, Brown & Passman.
