It’s been more than 20 years since Sarah Michelle Gellar and Alyson Hannigan played Buffy Summer and Willow Rosenberg alongside one another in Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
In May 2025, the co-stars reunited for a new project, a film titled Pretty Hurts.

The Lifetime Original Movie is brought by GSK’s Ask2BSure campaign and encourages parents of teens to start a conversation about meningitis and vaccination.
Gellar and Hannigan stepped out onto the blue carpet for the Los Angeles premiere of the film as they paired up for the important cause.
In the ’90s, Gellar and Hannigan were teen actresses together now they’re both mothers to teenagers themselves. Gellar is raising daughter Charlotte Grace, 16, and son Rocky James while Hannigan is mum to girls Satyana, 16, and Keeva, who turns 13 this month.
Gellar and Hannigan have been touring the US to promote the film and the cause, sharing snippets of their reunion on social media.
Fans flocked to the comment section of one post demanding a Buffy sequel.
“We absolutely NEED this reunion on the new Buffy sequel. And lots and lots of slaying and (dark) magic,” one fan commented, amassing thousands of likes.
Another wrote, “I’m 30, I’ve just waited 25 years of my life to see this again.”
“Buffy fans just collectively fainted,” a third said.

The Buffy and Willow reunion comes just a week after Sarah Michelle Gellar announced Ryan Kiera Armstrong had been cast as the lead opposite Gellar in the highly-anticipated reboot series.
Gellar will reprise her iconic role as Buffy Summer in the untitled project set for release in 2026.
Speaking exclusively to PEOPLE, Gellar and Hannigan explained that as mothers they’ve prioritised guiding their daughters to be more aware of their health.
“I always say that when you get married, you worry about that person. But that person is a fully formed adult and they can take care of themselves,” Gellar told the publication.
“Once you have children, every minute of every day is, what do I need to do? What haven’t I done for them? What are they doing right now? Because you’re their caretaker, you are responsible for these human beings and that’s the most important pressure that exists,” Gellar stressed.

The co-stars hoped their film Pretty Hurts would encourage other parents to have important conversations around meningitis and vaccination.
According to the Mayo Clinic, meningitis is an infection and inflammation of the fluid and membranes around the brain and spinal cord. The inflammation from meningitis most often triggers symptoms such as headache, fever and a stiff neck.
