CJ ENM’s Korean IP remakes are headed for more territories across Asia and Latin America, with a new licensing partnership between regional arm CJ ENM HK and Thailand-based True CJ.
Under this partnership, Korean drama remakes will be licensed to Latin America as well as several Asian markets, including Hong Kong, India, Japan, Korea and Taiwan.
In addition to localizing popular Korean IPs into remakes, True CJ will also continue to develop original content, with CJ ENM HK supporting the rollout of these titles across the region.
This partnership marks further overseas efforts for True CJ, which is a venture between Seoul-based CJ ENM and Thai pay TV company TrueVisions.
True CJ already has a pipeline of Thai-language remakes of Korean IP this year, including psychological thriller Mouse and apocalyptic suspense drama Happiness.
Happiness premiered on May 30 on Thai entertainment platform TrueID, while Mouse will be released in August.
As part of True CJ and CJ ENM HK’s partnership on title rollouts, Hong Kong’s myTV SUPER has premiered five Korean drama remakes from True CJ to date: 23:23, Thank You Teacher, Start-Up, Emergency Couple and Yesterday Wife. New Thai remake titles set to premiere in Hong Kong this year under the same partnership include Good Doctor and Dear My Secretary.
Good Doctor is the Thai remake of the acclaimed Korean medical drama of the same name — with the original Korean drama premiering in 2013 and starring Joo Won and Moon Chae-won.
The Thai remake has won a slew of domestic awards, including Best Adaptation Series of the Year at the Thailand Box Office Awards last year, and Best OTT Platform Series of the Year at the Pantip Television Awards.
