Bizarre bathroom floorplan makes house ‘unsellable’

You expect a home to have a shower and maybe even a set of stairs, but stairs in a shower? That’s one feature that’s on no buyer’s wishlist.

The Victorian farmhouse had 14 disjointed rooms and only two bathrooms, one of which was not functional to say the least.

Robin and her son Michael enlisted the help of real estate experts Leslie Davis and Lyndsay Lamb to transform their house to make it more desirable on the market.

When Leslie and Lyndsay inspected the house, specifically the bathroom, they could see why it had so much trouble selling in the past year.

Leslie and Lyndsay walked into the bathroom and spotted the usual toilet and sink but then they discovered an unexpected set of stairs in the corner.

“What the!!?? That is very odd,” Leslie gawked.

“Why do we have to walk up stairs to get to the shower?”

Michael explained that while the choice wasn’t aesthetic it was functional.

”The sewer exit is about a foot above the floor. My dad built that platform so that the water would slope all the way and then join the main sewer line,” he said.

Robin and Michael said that the bizarre shower stairs had been a major concern for potential buyers.

The bathroom wasn’t the only issue in Robin’s house.

Leslie and Lyndsay noted that Robin’s interior design choices were putting buyers off, especially her choice of carpet.

Robin had grey carpet in one room, floral carpet in the bedroom, and an ombre rainbow carpet on the stairs.

Leslie and Lyndsay advised that buyers like to see cohesion in a home’s styling.

The real estate experts had just four days to style and stage the home to bring it to a new set of buyers.

With such a short amount of time to turn the renovation around, Leslie and Lyndsay chose to keep the bizarre shower stairs as they were.

They hoped they’d done enough in the rest of the house to persuade buyers.
