Apple Film ‘Being Heumann’ Casts Daniel Durant & 4 More

EXCLUSIVE: Apple‘s new feature Being Heumann has added Michael Patrick Thornton (The Good Doctor, Broadway’s A Doll’s House), Antwan Tolliver (Gimme My Money), Daniel Durant (Flash Before the Bang, CODA), Jon Beavers (Paradise, Animal Kingdom) and Roberta Colindrez (A League of Their Own, Vida) to its cast.

The film, based on author Judy Heumann’s bestselling memoir, follows activist Heumann (Ruth Madeley) as she leads over a hundred people with disabilities in a takeover of the San Francisco Federal Building, kicking off a 28-day sit-in. The protestors quickly form a community, refusing to leave until the government enforces Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, which requires all federal spaces to become accessible.

Being Heumann is adapted, directed and produced by Academy Award-winner Siân Heder. She reunites with Durant, who played Leo Rossi in the Academy Award-winning film CODA, which Heder wrote and directed.

Durant will play Steve McCleeland; Colindrez will play Joni Breves; Tolliver will play Brad Lomax; Beavers will play Jim Pechin; Thornton will play Ed Roberts.

The previously announced cast also includes Mark Ruffalo, Dylan O’Brien, Madeline Delp, Rob Delaney and Ray Fisher.

Hailing from Apple Studios, Being Heumann will be directed by Heder, under her overall deal with Apple, from her script written with Rebekah Taussig. David Permut will produce for Permut Presentations alongside Kevin Walsh, whose The Walsh Company is under an overall deal with Apple. Heumann’s managers, John W. Beach and Kevin Cleary of Gravity Squared Entertainment, will also serve as producers, with Heumann, Being Heumann co-author Kristen Joiner, Diana Pokorny, and Jim Lebrecht executive producing.

Tolliver is repped by RPT Entertainment LLC; Thornton is repped by Innovative Artists, Principal Entertainment LA; Beavers is repped by Greene Talent and Gang, Tyre, Ramer;  Durant is repped by Buchwald and Trice Koopman Management; Colindrez is repped by Paradigm Talent Agency and Davien Littlefield Management.
