Netflix’s Newfoundland Limited Series Sets Directing Team

Netflix has added a trio of directors to its upcoming limited series set in Newfoundland, Canada.

Helen Shaver (The Penguin), Stephen Dunn (Closet Monster) and Jamie Childs (The Sandman) have boarded the untitled six-episode series, with Childs also taking on an exec producer role.

The show, first unveiled in February, is set to film and take place in Newfoundland. Synopsis reads: “When a mysterious sea creature terrorizes a remote Newfoundland town, a hard-bitten fisherman must fight to protect his family, his community, and his vanishing way of life.”

Jesse McKeown (The Umbrella Academy) is creator, showrunner and exec producer and Karen Walton (Orphan Black), Perry Chafe (St.Pierre) and Natty Zavitz (Edging) are the writers. Christ Hatcher, Sharon Hall and Childs are the executive producers.

“There’s an atmosphere here in Newfoundland that defies simple description – a place rich with folklore and quiet magic, where reality blurs into the surreal,” said Childs. “Jesse McKeown’s story doesn’t explain it – it evokes it – and I’m so excited to help bring that feeling to audiences everywhere.”
