EXCLUSIVE: For eight seasons, Mike Goldstein has been making Aussies laugh as a regular on The Hundred With Andy Lee.
The US stand-up comedian returns for brand new episodes of the hit show, airing Wednesdays at 7:30pm on Channel 9 and 9Now.
Starring alongside 100 everyday Aussies, Mike revealed the one thing fans always get wrong when it comes to comedians – if you ever meet one in the wild.

“I think it’s when you meet them in a social setting and [the fan would] say something funny and then they look at you and say, ‘You can use that in your skit or routine’,” Mike began to explain.
“Whatever they said is never going to work on stage,” he laughed. “People who think they’re providing you with material, never really are.”
But you sure get points for trying!

After 15 years of stand-up, Mike admitted even he “gets a rough show every now and then”.

“I had to do a children’s show on a cruise ship, this was years ago,” Mike recalled.
“A child screamed, ‘Say something funny’ when I was about five minutes into my set and it was probably the biggest laugh of that performance,” he shared.
“To get roasted by a 10-year-old is absolutely brutal,” he laughed.
Mike said it’s all part of the job and even enjoys getting “heckled” now – just so he can give it back to them.
But when a joke does fall flat, the comedian revealed just a few tricks of the trade.
“You go, ‘Oh that was a new joke and it’s not getting any older’,” he smiled. “Or say, ‘That one was just for me’.”
“It’s all trial and error for stand-up. You can try and joke a few times, if it’s not working you can drop it,” he said.
“That’s what I love about The Hundred. You only get one shot – this sounds like an 8 Mile lyric now – but you have the one chance to nail the joke.”

From the interesting stats to the unexpected guests, Mike said he’s stoked to be returning for a brand new season.
“Just being on a panel with comedy heroes of mine, such as Ross Noble and Dave Hughes, and obviously working with Sophie [Monk] every episode is a highlight.”
