EXCLUSIVE: Academy Award winner Kevin Spacey (American Beauty) and DJ Qualls (The New Guy) are set to topline 1780, a new historical thriller directed by Dustin Fairbanks (Warning Shot).
The film is set during the Revolutionary War, in the vast forests of Pennsylvania, where a wounded soldier finds refuge with a trapper and his young son. As British forces close in, they must navigate loyalty, survival, and the harsh realities of a world at war. Watch a first teaser at the link above.
The film is produced by SDS Pictures and Future Proof Films. Producers included DJ Dodd (Plan B, A Day to Die), Spero Stamboulis (Filth, Warning Shot), and Kimberly Olsen. Also starring R. Keith Harris (The Walking Dead), PJ Marshall (Mindhunter), and Vince Eisenson (Billions), the film is expected to be released later this year.
Spacey has only been seen in indies since sexual misconduct allegations were raised against him in 2017, even if he was found not liable in a lawsuit brought by actor Anthony Rapp, and found not guilty of sex crimes in a subsequent UK trial. Recent projects include The Contract, Peter Five Eight, and Control. He is repped by manager Evan Lowenstein.
Known for films like Road Trip, The New Guy and Hustle & Flow, Qualls has recently been seen in Hulu’s horror flick Carved and Max’s comedy series Bookie. He is repped by The Kohner Agency and Artists First.
1780 is the sophomore feature of Fairbanks on the heels of Warning Shot, a thriller starring Tammy Blanchard, Guillermo Diaz, David Spade and more, which was released in 2018. He’s otherwise perhaps best known for exec producing reality series The American Dream.
